This year’s MEDITECH Users Network (MUN) 2024 event was a vibrant gathering of healthcare professionals, with a strong focus on how to drive greater value from MEDITECH.
During our presentation, Maximising the Value of MEDITECH: Lessons, Opportunities, and Avoiding Pitfalls, we explored practical strategies that healthcare organisations can adopt to improve clinical efficiency and patient care while overcoming common challenges.
Here are the key takeaways from our session:
1. Leveraging Global ExperienceOne of the most impactful elements of our discussion was the insight into how MEDITECH Expanse has been successfully optimised in global healthcare systems. Our consistent delivery of successful MEDITECH implementations speaks volumes about our capability and reliability. With over 300 successful MEDITECH implementations in the US and UK, and day-to-day support provided to over 50 MEDITECH facilities, our track record is unmatched. We highlighted lessons learned from these implementations, emphasising the importance of avoiding common mistakes. UK Trusts can benefit from these best practices, particularly in terms of workflow optimisation and aligning systems to improve clinical outcomes.
2. Opportunities for NHS TrustsWe identified several key opportunities for NHS Trusts to enhance their use of MEDITECH. By maximising productivity, focusing on clinical efficiency, and leveraging patient engagement tools, Trusts can deliver better outcomes for both staff and patients. This includes ensuring that Electronic Patient Records (EPR) systems are fully integrated, improving the flow of information across healthcare settings to support better decision-making and continuity of care.
3. Addressing NHS-Specific ChallengesNHS Trusts face unique challenges, from budget constraints to maintaining the quality of care while managing increasing demands. Our session provided practical advice on how to tackle these issues, particularly through improving communication between hospital-based and community-based care. By streamlining processes and adopting innovative solutions, Trusts can meet these challenges head-on and continue to deliver high-quality care within tight budgets.
4. Navigating Pitfalls in ImplementationImplementing and optimising MEDITECH comes with its own set of challenges. We discussed common pain points during the implementation phase and shared strategies on how to avoid them. From ensuring strong project management to engaging clinical teams early in the process, these steps are critical in achieving successful deployment and sustained system optimisation.
MUN 2024 showcased significant advancements in AI, interoperability, and partnerships with industry leaders such as Google Health. A highlight was the discussion around AI-powered solutions, including how Google Health is collaborating with MEDITECH to make healthcare data more accessible and improve decision-making. Their pilot projects in the US are already demonstrating benefits such as time-saving, improved documentation, and enhanced data quality.
One key takeaway from the event was the importance of getting the data right. Accurate, timely, and accessible data is critical to improving patient outcomes and ensuring operational efficiency. Several sessions, such as those focusing on data integration and interoperability, stressed that healthcare organisations need to ensure the quality and availability of data across systems to maximise the value of technologies like MEDITECH Expanse. As we continue to see AI and interoperability tools evolve, getting data right will remain at the heart of driving healthcare innovation.
As we look forward to continued collaboration with NHS Trusts and other healthcare providers, our commitment remains clear: to support the journey towards digital maturity. By implementing effective strategies for using MEDITECH Expanse, healthcare organisations can achieve operational excellence, improve patient care, and create more resilient, future-ready systems.
We are proud to have been part of MUN 2024 and look forward to continuing the conversation on how we can help you maximise the value of your healthcare IT investments.
